Before You Start

  • Confirm whether this is Tuesday HCS chapel, Sunday Junior Church, or another fellowship.
  • Open the desk lid. The QR code and monitor are inside the lid; the rack gear is in the right rack.
  • For chapel, plan to stream and record. For Junior Church, do not schedule or start a stream or use the camera.
  • Confirm the laptop, X32, wireless receiver, ATEM, and lighting are available.

Quick-Start Checklist

  1. Turn on the rack-mounted power conditioner.
  2. Wake the laptop, choose Extended display, and open PowerPoint or optional ProPresenter.
  3. Check the camera on ATEM input 1 and laptop on ATEM input 2.
  4. Scan the QR code and open surface Fellowship Hall, startup page 12 - Fellowship Hall; page 11 is older.
  5. Set normal lighting with the SR516 preset buttons.
  6. Line-check handheld, lapel, laptop audio, columns, subs, and stream meters.
  7. Chapel only: use Stream Scheduler, start the stream, and start USB recording.

What You Are Responsible For

You are the single operator for the Fellowship Hall desk: X32 audio, laptop presentation, ATEM switching and picture-in-picture, the Tuesday chapel stream through LivestreamRelay to YouTube and Facebook, USB recording, the Canon camera, and lighting.

What Good Looks Like

  • Chapel uses a clear camera shot, with the computer in picture-in-picture when needed, and the stream reaches YouTube and Facebook through the relay.
  • The USB-C recording is running during chapel and is safely stopped and offloaded afterward.
  • The handheld, lapel, and laptop audio are clear through the columns, with the subs working when needed.
  • Junior Church shows presentation on both TVs, carries laptop and microphone audio through the PA, and has no stream or camera running.
  • The SR516 presets provide the normal lighting look, and the Canon stays on one useful static shot.

Operating Steps

  1. Open the desk lid and turn on the rack-mounted conditioner. It powers the X32, SD16, Crown amp, subs, ATEM, wireless receiver, and monitor.
  2. Leave the laptop, SR516, ArtNet converter, and UniFi switch on. They are not on the conditioner.
  3. Wake the laptop, open PowerPoint (normal) or optional ProPresenter, and select Extended display, not Mirror.
  4. Scan the QR code taped inside the lid. Open the phone/tablet emulator for surface Fellowship Hall and startup page 12 - Fellowship Hall; ignore page 11.
  5. Use Companion to control ATEM program switching. Picture-in-picture puts the computer output as a small box in the bottom-left corner of the camera feed.
  6. Use the Canon controls for pan, tilt, zoom, focus, exposure, power, and preset recall. Chapel normally uses one shot: set it once and leave it.
  7. For presentation, the first HDMI splitter sends one output to ATEM input 2 and the other to the second splitter. The second splitter feeds the left and right TVs.
  8. Bring up microphones and laptop audio on the X32. Mains use Matrix 1/2, subs use Bus 1, and stream audio uses Matrix 3/4 through SD16 outputs 5/6.
  9. For Tuesday chapel, use the Stream Scheduler button. It may still be labeled New Chapel Stream and calls the HCS Chapel scheduling action; this is legacy naming drift, not another room.
  10. Start the ATEM stream and confirm the established path reaches LivestreamRelay, YouTube, and Facebook. Start recording to the USB-C flash drive.
  11. Use the SR516 physical preset buttons for normal lighting. Use the LuminetDMX Companion integration only for a look beyond the SR516 presets.
  12. For Sunday Junior Church, show PowerPoint or optional ProPresenter on both TVs, run laptop and microphone audio through the PA, and do not schedule, stream, or use the camera.

Common Problems and First Responses

Problem First thing to check What to do next When to escalate
No room sound Conditioner, AES50, X32 meters, Matrix 1/2, Crown Confirm SD16 outputs 1/2 and the Crown are active Sound remains absent
No subs Bus 1, SD16 output 3, and sub power Confirm the Bus 1 send and powered-sub connections Subs remain silent
ATEM has no camera Input 1, converter, SDI, and camera network link Check the Canon network connection, SDI cable, converter, and input 1 No picture after the path check
TVs do not show the laptop Extended display and splitter paths Select Extended display; check both HDMI splitters and TV inputs Both TVs remain dark
Stream is not online Page-12 schedule/stream actions Verify the New Chapel Stream / HCS Chapel action, ATEM status, relay, YouTube, and Facebook Relay does not deliver
Recording is missing USB-C drive and record action Confirm the drive was inserted and stop recording before removing it File remains unavailable
Companion buttons do nothing QR, surface, page, and network Re-scan, choose Fellowship Hall, open page 12, and ignore page 11 Still no control
Lights do not change SR516 preset and DMX path Use SR516 first; then check ArtNet ethernet, DMX, and fixture power Fixtures remain dark
Computer is too large or mirrored on TVs Display mode Set the laptop to Extended, not Mirror Presentation still does not route correctly

Helpful Context

  • The desk is at the front-left corner and closes to protect equipment from dust and children.
  • All non-desk-top equipment currently sits in the right rack.
  • The Canon camera sends SDI to the desk converter; its network port supplies power and control through the UniFi switch.
  • The TVs are picture-only. Their speakers are not part of the room audio story.
  • Channels 5–16 on the SD16 are not yet defined. Do not assign them without the AV leader.
  • There are no stage monitors; the room uses mains, subs, and the stream mix.

Shutdown or Handoff

  1. For chapel, stop the stream and recording from page 12. Verify the recording is complete, then manually offload it to campus shared storage.
  2. Close presentation software and return the TVs to their normal state.
  3. Turn off the rack-mounted conditioner. Leave the laptop, SR516, ArtNet converter, and UniFi switch on.
  4. Close and latch the desk lid.
  5. Tell the next operator about changed routing, missing equipment, or unresolved failures.
