Purpose
The Auditorium AV system supports in-room worship services, livestream production, projection for the congregation, a Stage Display for people on the platform, a House Overflow Feed for lobby and nursery viewing, and both normal-service and event-style lighting control.

Signal Flow
Projection
The ProPresenter operator decides whether content should be shown as full-screen Audience View or as Lower Thirds. Songs and Bible verses use Lower Thirds. Everything else uses the full-screen Audience View.
Livestream Video
The Livestream Video operator uses vMix as the primary live-switching surface for the livestream. The ATEM mainly distributes camera and ProPresenter sources into vMix, while Mix Effect 2 on the ATEM creates the House Overflow Feed for the lobby and nurseries.
Livestream Audio
The Livestream Audio operator mixes on the Wing. Most sources arrive from the Avantis through Dante tie-lines, while the congregational microphones come directly into the Wing through analog inputs after a ceiling preamp. The Wing then sends its main output to vMix over Dante and also provides an analog output to the ATEM for the House Overflow Feed.
When no Livestream Audio operator is present, the vMix operator can switch the Wing into FOH Source Mode so the FOH mix becomes the source for the livestream path while still passing through the Wing’s downstream processing.
FOH Audio
The Avantis creates the House Mix for the room and also provides matrix outputs for lobby/hallway speakers and the Assistive Listening System, monitor mixes for platform participants, and Dante feeds for the Livestream Audio Console.
Lighting
Normal services use simple lighting presets and are usually handled by FOH Audio. Larger events may use a dedicated Lighting operator, more detailed preset groupings, color changes, and cue lists. When a dedicated Lighting operator is present, they also control the House Lights.
Pre-Service Checks
Projection (ProPresenter)
- Ensure the ProPresenter application is running.
- Compare the ProPresenter playlist with the paper service order.
- Confirm all songs, Bible verses, sermon slides, videos, and other needed content are present.
- Verify slide actions are configured correctly, including Stage Display layout changes and Lower Thirds actions for songs and Bible verses.
Livestream Video (vMix)
- Confirm all cameras are on.
- Set camera movement and zoom speed to a level the operator can control cleanly; many operators use 8 for both.
- Review the paper service order so the operator understands the service flow.
- Before the 5-minute mark, use Stream Deck -> Utilities to schedule New CBC Stream, then New ASL Stream a few seconds later.
- Confirm in YouTube Studio that the correct streams are scheduled, remove duplicates if needed, and rename special services when appropriate.
- Verify that FOH Source Mode is actually in the intended state on the Wing and, if needed, toggle the button on and back off to re-sync the Stream Deck indicator with the real console state.
- Around 5 minutes before service, start the stream from the Stream Deck.
- About 30 seconds before service, confirm that
Audio Dante Receiveis showing movement and that the feed has switched from pre-service music to the live service audio.
Startup
AV Room
- The vMix and ProPresenter computers usually remain on 24x7, so normal operation is based on pre-service checks rather than power-up.
- The Avantis must be on before the Wing can receive its Dante audio sources.
- Studio monitor speakers for Livestream Audio should be turned on only after the Wing is fully booted to avoid speaker pops.
FOH Audio
The FOH system uses a power sequencer. In general, the turn-on order is:
- Avantis
- Wireless microphone receivers (8 handheld, 2 headset/lapel)
- GX4816 stagebox
- DSP
- Amplifiers
Shutdown
AV Room
- Turn off the Livestream Audio studio monitors before powering down the Wing to avoid speaker pops.
FOH Audio
- Use the FOH power sequencer for shutdown; the order is the reverse of startup.
Common Failures and Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | First response | Escalate when |
|---|---|---|---|
| No dedicated Livestream Audio operator is available | No one is staffing the Wing directly | vMix operator switches the Wing into FOH Source Mode | The FOH source still does not reach vMix correctly |
| FOH Source Mode appears off on the Stream Deck, but the Wing is still behaving as if it is on | The Stream Deck indicator is out of sync with the actual Wing state | Toggle FOH Source Mode on and back off again to re-sync the control state | The Wing still does not return to the expected input source after re-syncing |
| Stream 1 fails the first time the operator starts the main livestream for the day | The first start attempt in vMix commonly errors for the main stream | Try starting Stream 1 again; it normally works on the second attempt | The second attempt also fails or YouTube still does not show the stream as live |
| Projectors do not turn on automatically before service | The scheduled projector power-on does not always fire correctly | Use the All Projectors On button on the Projection Stream Deck, then wait a minute or two | The projectors still do not turn on and the operator must use the on-stage IR remote |
| The pastor’s headset microphone pops | The mic is too close to the mouth or nose, or the headset cable is failing | Check and adjust placement first; if that does not fix it, replace the headset cable to the belt pack | Popping continues after placement adjustment and cable replacement |
| Moving the lighting faders does not change the lights | Lightkey is not running, the wrong Lightkey control panel is active, or the USB controller needs to be reconnected | Confirm Lightkey is running, confirm the normal default control panel is selected, then unplug and reconnect the USB controller if needed | The controller still does not affect the lights after those checks |
| The Livestream Audio monitor speakers are very quiet even though the Wing meters look correct | The monitor speaker volume knob is turned down | Turn up the monitor speaker volume knob | The monitors remain too quiet even after the knob is turned up |
Training and Notes
- FOH Audio and Lighting are often combined in normal services but should still be documented as separate systems.
- The dedicated Lighting role is mainly needed for more complex events such as concerts and cantatas.
- Camera presets are normally triggered from the Stream Deck through Bitfocus Companion, but the Canon RC-IP100 controller is available for manual moves when no preset fits.
- The Auditorium uses two separate networks: a Dante-only TP-Link switch for audio transport and a UniFi network for PTZ control, ATEM control, and general AV device management.
- The Projection Stream Deck is connected to the ProPresenter computer, but its Bitfocus Companion actions are backed by a Companion instance running in Docker on an Ubuntu VM hosted in Hyper-V on a Windows server in the server room.
- The broader cross-room Companion architecture, room-to-room dependencies, and successor-facing operational notes are documented in Bitfocus Companion Cross-Room Reference.
- Camera 4 is commonly used for congregation shots, band shots, and side angles on the preacher.
- The deaf signer camera is used only for the signer and is a core part of the ASL Feed.
- The House Overflow Feed is distributed through an SDI-to-HDMI conversion/distribution path before it reaches the lobby and nursery TVs.
- The sound room also has an ATEM multiview confidence monitor that is separate from the public-facing overflow TVs.
- Wednesday services commonly use FOH Source Mode, so Sunday operators should explicitly verify that it has been returned to the expected state.
- The Livestream Audio monitor-speaker volume knob is toward the top left of the Wing console.
